Home Improvements

We  have had this house for about 1 1/2 now.  All of the things we have dreamed about doing, well half of them have been finished.  I really enjoy thrift store shopping, projects, and making things my own.  I like the fact of making something new out of something old.  It feels more personal that buying things brand new from a store.  Here are a few small projects that I have been able to finish this winter.  I plan on doing a lot more!  I will post a list soon, but I need to figure out my top jobs first!
A view of my post card shelves.  I stole this idea from Young House Love (http://www.younghouselove.com/).  It may not look as professional but it works for us!  I have a bunch of post cards that Dan and I have collected from our trips together that I will display, but for the season I displayed all of our wonderful Christmas cards from our friends and family.

A closer view.....along with the green wall.  I repainted it, but it STILL doesn't seem like the right color.

A calendar I made for Dan and I as 2011 approached.  I filled it with comments and sayings that are special to us.   This was January, some of my favorite quotes were, "I Do" (for June, our wedding month), "JuiceBox Derek vs. Spencian" (for a ridiculous Fourth of July Story), and "I can grow a patchy beard" (for the 4 weeks Dan attempted to grow facial hair)!

I got this little table at Hobby Lobby for a steal of a deal (only $30!) So.....we decided to put it in our dining room.   I need to move the plants, but just haven't found a home for them yet.  Also...we have begun to collect interesting or colored bottles.  Another idea from Young House Love.  (This site is amazing!) I always said I would NEVER said I would have a doily in my house.....but it is from Dan's mother.  Small pieces like really make a home, and reminds us of a wonderful woman who left our world a little too soon.

A shadow box frame that I made for Dan.  These were some of my favorite wedding pictures, and I wanted a different way to display them instead of just another frame.  This is what I came up with.....

Some shelves that were finally put up by Dan's good friend Derek.  I made that "H" you see up there.  Not exactly how I want everything arranged, but I am trying!  Haha
